Another Wrap on a 48 Hour Film Project
July was a busy month but to throw in a weekend of no sleep, all the while writting, scripting, storyboarding, filming and editing a 7 minute short is just insane. But its still fun. Whats even funnier is every year in the middle of the project I swear I won’t do it again but after seeing the final results, I cave and already begin plans on what to do different the next year!
We had another year with a great crew! We had losed some people but gained some new faces. And those people jumped right in did an awesome job. I was glad this year to have a cameraman do most of the camerawork so I could be behind the camera and make sure its the shot I like instead of worrying about handling the camera. Although there were some shots I had to do myself being the perfectionist I am!
We drew the drama genre this year so we were again lucky to have a genre that you can really be flexible with since it’s a broad genre. But I don’t think we were prepared for the fact that its really difficult to try and make the audience feel something about a character in 7 minutes. You pretty much have to hit them over the head but gently.
Our story centers around a woman, Lucy, who is frustrated with her situation as a wife. Her husband who was in a freak accident suffers from an alzheimers-like condition where he does normal things but in a weird way (such as cleaning his clothes with a vacuum cleaner). Lucy has called on her sister-in-law to vent her frustration and to have family around for some normalcy in her life. While they are there, Lucy notices her husbands’ short periods of clarity and realizes she could still love him, even with his long periods of clueless-ness (is that a word?).
Unfortunately I cannot post the video online just yet or that will disqualify us from winning any awards but I will as soon as the award ceremony is over and we’ve swept the nominations that we earn (yeah, right!). But check back soon as I will post the link to it. Most likely it will be on my home page with the rest of my latest work… http://markovisual.com
I personally want to thank my wife Susan for the huge help of bringing the crew lunch and dinner all the while still watching after our daughter. Not an easy task I’m sure. Also thank the other wives, Wesley McGowan and Sam Bean for helping out when needed. Sam is a great double for when you need a female about 5,6 in height and they don’t need to be in focus! And of course, thanks to the awesome cast and crew, again, you guys did a great job, was a pleasure to work with and we didn’t need to file and insurance claim so already I’m extremely pleased. Glad to have Paul Armstrong on the crew who drove all the way from Cincinnati to join us. We must be getting good if we’re drawing attention from that far away!
